Edge Tools
The manufacture of edge tools is, along with the cutlery trade, probably the industry with which Sheffield is most closely associated.
In Sheffield the edge tool trades were roughly divided into:
Light edge tools including chisels, gouges, plane irons, drawing knives, etc.
Heavy edge tools which included axes, adzes, bills, hooks, hatchets and other implements.
